Black Tower

Who here would really vote on the Cooler Master Stacker series as a small case? Okay, any of you with your hands up, please proceed directly to the ophthalmologist to get your eyes checked.

I guess sometimes "big" just isn't big enough. At least, that's my excuse for Anobis' recent project, dubbed aptly "Black Tower." Perhaps Black Monolith and Black Humungo-tron weren't his cup of tea. Anyway, he's taken a Stacker, stripped it down to to its undies and built a whole new MDF frame for it. And managed to make it considerably bigger in the process!

Since I doubt you'll see this big bad boy at your next LAN event, let's take a look at what he's been up to...

Initially, Anobis wasn't planning on using his old Stacker as part of the build process. Fortunately for him, he did use it for size layouts of the base. This base would hold parts of the watercooling - namely the two triple radiators.

It didn't take very long before Anobis recognised that re-inventing the wheel by creating a whole new interior was kind of silly with such a well-built behemoth lying around. And so, the Stacker became a permanent part of Black Tower, eventually being assimilated into the wooden surround.

The MDF has allowed Anobis a lot of flexibility in shaping his project, especially when he threw himself the curve ball of adding the Stacker internals. That didn't mean that there wouldn't be wood there - so a lot of careful shaping went into the new corner columns and back panel.

Piece by piece, Anobis created a wooden back panel over the metal frame of the original Stacker.

The front panel has received a great amount of detail, and Anobis is finally to the point where he can leave the basic framing behind and move on to accent pieces. Where will he go with the overall design? Take a spin over to his worklog to fnd out!
